When confronted with the boxed vampire, stake in hand, should one attempt to drive the stake directly through the breast bone, or attempt an angled drive slightly from the left side? How exactly was the Highgate Vampire staked?
This may seem like a strange question, but I would be very leery of trying to split the human (or vampiric) breastbone with a wooden stake via a single blow. And, there have always been risks associated with failure to drive the stake in with a single blow. So, it seems that an angled drive into the breast/heart through the gaps between the ribs slightly to the left of the breastbone would be more reasonable.
Anyhow, a strange and somewhat grisly question--but, not intended as a facetious one.

A quite large stake was employed in the case of the Highgate Vampire, identical to the one prominent in the display of such accoutrements in the image at the top of this webpage: www.gothicpress.freeserve.co.uk/What%20Is%20A%20Vampire.htmThe drive is inevitably angled, having acquired some cursory anatomical knowledge prior to any attempted exorcism.
