I recently visited both sides of highgate cemetary the west being much more interesting than the east. The one thing I noticed about this west side was that some the other tombs had been bricked up and not just the tomb of the alleged highgate vampire also the tombs were resealed in the same fashion maybe more than one vampire lives or lived at highgate ?

I dont know, but I find the West side absolutely beautiful. I try and visit as often as I can - I think I know the tour babble off by heart Obviously I have only seen it by day - but I am struck by the peacefulness of it. Its a very special place. We have had snow here recently and I bet it looked spectacular.

The tranquility which you can certainly enjoy today within the walls of the Western Cemetery in Swains Lane at Highgate did not exist thirty-five years ago when diabolists held clandestine nocturnal meetings, disturbed the contents of tombs to use corpses in necromantic ceremonies, and, of course, people suffered the unearthly presence of the vampire which was witnessed by many and could be felt by others.
The peacefulness you describe attests to the fact that there are today no vampires or supernatural disturbances of any kind at Highgate Cemetery.

My father used to work for a security company that looked after the Cemetery after all the vampire business. He was based on the West side, and was a dog handler. He was often stopped by the large dogs in certain places, sensing something. This was in the late 70's early 80's. Even though I said before it was peaceful there - it is also a spiritual place. Its chicken soup for my soul

Hello, all. I am new here, this seems like a very interesting board. I am originally from London, and I was 14 at the time of the Highgate Vampire and its destruction. In fact, I lived about 5 mins walk from ashurst manor as was, and I used to walk past the site every day to and from school. There was always an eerie feeling around that place, but i was a little too young to actually know what was going on there...As an orthodox Christian, i was well aware of the evil which could exist, and it came as no surprise to me to read what was going on there many years later. I remember incidents of weird sightings and a feeling of not wanting to be alone in the house on certain nights...Certainly the area had a horrid feeling, one which persisted even after the house itself was destroyed. I am very interested in the subject, having lived on its doorstep, and a susequent visit many years later to the West part of Highgate cemetary itself and seeing the actual tomb described brought home the truth of the matter to me...
Now, all these years later, it still gives me shivers to remember what lived(if you can call that) around the corner from me! Regards, Az
